THE NEW ALBUM

It’s been quite a long time since we recorded our first demo in 2002, but finally we got it: our first album with K-Industria (one of Spain's largest independent music labels based in Barcelona). We’ve spent 2007 working on this little piece of plastic, trying to compile on it the experience gained these years. And we’re quite happy with the result: the album is electrical and cheeky, full of rhythm and nuances, Rumba & Flamenqueo... an album imbued with what we invented as NEOCALORRISMO (translated by the international musical press as “New gypsydom”, if it can be translated at all...)

The crew from PANTANITO who has participated in this album is the classic one: José el Pantanito and Clara la Poison (vocals), Luís Sanches (bass), Xarim "Pomelito" (electric guitar and vocals), Pablo Marín (Flamenco guitar), David Viaña (drums) and Lucho Caballero (percussion), and we also had the inestimable help from: Carles Sanjosex, El Chico con la Espina en el Costado, Kike Jaleíto, Rufino y Don Domingo, Caty Plana, Josué "el Ciclón" García and his brother Martín García, Ivaniwi Impagao, Paco and Luís Mariano Peña, Cayetano Er Nines, la Compañía Bulos y Tanguerías, Very Pomelo, and our current percussionist and Cajon player Pol Sabata.

Thanks to the support and understanding from the label, we could record this album at our own pace, without hurries, with qualified staff and good technical equipments... We started in 2007 at Estudios Toscano, with Hugo Toscano monitoring and assisting the production. We stayed (and almost lived) there until April... In September we started the mixing at Estudios Feelback, where we luckily found Cesar J. Cisneros at the controls (this guy has recorded with Ojos de Brujo, Muchachito Bombo Infierno, etc.), who made us feel confident and helped a lot with production. After that, we went to Cool Tunes for the mastering with Guy Wenger.

The desing it’s been a work from Ricard Bofill (Estudi Jazzbo), who has also worked for Radio Malanga and 12Twelve among other Spanish bands. The promo pics were taken by Marta Pujol and by other of our usual photographer and Webmaster Lanoeysugato.

And after giving all this speech, you might have probably noticed our real intentions... Buy the album! You won’t regret it! You only have to come and see us live at concerts or buy it directly from K-Industria Website at www.kindustria.com and the regular music shops.

THE “JISTORY”

The beginning of Pantanito, as an entity, not as a band, arose from the chance to write two songs (Ilegá and Politoxicomanía) for ¨Sangra Bábylon¨, a foul Z-Series film about street criminals and junkies. The experience was so good I recruited a few mates and entered the studio to record them. The result from these sessions was the first demo from Pantanito, ¨Viviendo el barrio¨ (2002).

At that point, we had the need to play live and after some gigs with Xarim "el nen de Flix" (now "Pomelito") playing the guitar, we created an stable band. We met Luís Sanches who started to play the bass with us and after five years of constant evolution, we have consolidated the current crew, ready to live up parties with our energy, sweet&sour lyrics, and ¡¡fiesta, musha fiesta!!

From time to time we also do special concerts in “reduced format” and José el Pantanito has been lately seen playing live with Carles SANJOSEX, EL CHICO CON LA ESPINA, CARLOS CROS and VERY POMELO (Sobretaula Cicles organized by BANKROBBER and BACCO PRODUCCIONS, and the Festival Acústica 2006 from Figueres.).

BACKGROUND

The artistic career of a band is always the most boring part (to read but also to write), so we can sume it up as follows:

During these years, we’ve played the songs from our three autoedited demos "Viviendo el barrio" (2002), "Pantanito" (2004) and "Livemosquito" (2005) in many clubs from Barcelona and the rest of the country, Spanish festivals like Soma, FUSIC, Mosquito, Mestival, InVICtro, BAM... and even organized our own festival called CERTAMEN DE NEOCALORRISMO DE BARCELONA where we shared stage with TONI EL GITANO (a living legend from the old roughest Rumba scene with whom we recorded a song ("Macarra") for a compitation album called Rambla, Rumble, Rumba (EMI, 2007).

Furthermore, one of our most popular songs ("El curso del INEM") has been included in two promotional compilations ("Músiques Urbanes + a Prop", Culture Insitute of Barcelona) and the above mentioned "Rumble, Rambla, Rumba", together with admired musicians like Kiko Veneno, Muchachito Bombo Infierno and Ojos de Brujo... Recently we presented this compilation CD in Madrid, at Círculo de Bellas Artes, with Los Delincuentes, Muchachito Bombo Infierno and friends Jaleo Real and Caníbala. We’ve also participated in a virtual album called "4020 segundos" carried out by www.promocioname.net, with "En los Barrios".

To finish, our relationship with the media has been more that rewarding, and we’ve made the opening theme for COM Ràdio program "L'altra cara de la Lluna" and Ràdio Barcelona SER "Què fas aquesta nit".
